Looks like Hansal Mehta is ready to start the hype again with another installment of the Scam franchise.

‘After Harshad Mehta, it’s Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi’

This time the fascinating tale will revolve around the counterfeiter Abdul Karim Telgi. The 2nd season has been titled ‘Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi‘ and is being adapted from the Hindi book ‘Reporter ki Diary’ written by journalist Sanjay Singh, who broke the story of the scam back in the day.

A 20,000 Crore Scam?

Scam 2003 will explore the life of Abdul Karim Telgi, born in Khanapur (Karnataka) who went from being a fruit seller to building an empire counterfeiting stamp papers!

Fake stamp paper scam

Telgi allegedly pulled off a whopping 20,000 crore scam – he appointed nearly 350 people as agents and sold fake stamp papers to banks, insurance companies and stock brokerage firms.

In 2001, he was arrested in Ajmer, Rajasthan and was sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment. He was also fined Rs 202 crores. Telgi tested HIV positive in jail and died on 27 October 2017 at a Bengaluru hospital.

Scam 2003 Release Date?

Directed by Hansal Mehta again, Scam 2003 is being produced by Applause Entertainment in association with StudioNEXT. The series will stream on Sony LIV platform in 2022.
