Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film is reportedly slated for a direct-to-digital premiere.
Chamkila is the biopic of the late Punjabi folk singer, Amar Singh Chamkila. While Diljit plays the titular role, Parineeti will be seen as Chamkila’s wife marjot Kaur.
If this Peeping Moon report is to be believed, Chamkila will release directly on Netflix.
“Imtiaz Ali has previously collaborated with Netflix on the crime drama series, She, and Chamkila further carry forward their association. It’s not that this film was originally planned for theatrical release and was later sold to OTT. It was always meant to be a Netflix original. It’s one of the most exciting projects coming out of Netflix this year, and the streaming platform intends to make the announcement with great pomp later this month or in early April.”

Called as ‘Elvis Of Punjab’, Amar Singh and his wife Amarjot were mysteriously assassinated on 8 March 1988. The biopic is expected to shed light on Amar Singh‘s true love, controversies and his mysterious assassination.
