Aamir Khan has long expressed his desire to adapt the Indian epic Mahabharat for the big screen, and it seems that vision is finally taking shape. In a recent interview, the actor-producer shared that he intends to start work on the ambitious project later this year.
As per reports, Aamir Khan revealed his plans to begin work on Mahabharat later this year. The actor confirmed that the project will be produced under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions. He said, “I’m hoping to start work on it this year.”

Aamir also revealed that the film will be structured as a multi-part saga, much like the Lord of the Rings franchise. However, he noted that the project is still in its early stages, emphasizing that the writing alone will span several years. “It’s going to take time, as the writing process itself will take a few years,” he explained.
Aamir also shared that he has not yet decided whether he will act in the film. Casting, he said, will be determined purely by suitability for each character. “We’ll choose the cast based on who fits each role best,” he noted.

Reflecting on the scope of the project, Aamir said, “I don’t think Mahabharat can be told in a single film—it will have to be a multi-part series. I’m envisioning it on a grand scale. It’s still early days, but we may even require multiple directors to do justice to its magnitude.”
Aamir Khan was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, the 2022 adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. Following the film’s underwhelming box office performance, Aamir took a brief hiatus before diving into his next project, Sitaare Zameen Par.
Billed as a thematic follow-up to his acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by RS Prasanna and stars Genelia Deshmukh alongside Aamir. Co-produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, the film is slated for a theatrical release on June 20.
