EXCLUSIVE: “Spirituality Does Not Mean Leaving Things Behind” – Says Jaya Kishori

What does spirituality really mean? Is it about running off to the mountains, giving up your phone, and living on air and sunlight? Not if you ask Jaya Kishori, the young spiritual speaker, singer, and motivational coach who’s making age-old wisdom feel surprisingly relatable.

EXCLUSIVE: “Spirituality Does Not Mean Leaving Things Behind” – Says Jaya Kishori

In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, Jaya breaks down spirituality in the simplest way possible.

“If you are doing something not just for your own benefit, but also keeping in mind the benefit of society, the country, or the people around you, then you are spiritual.”

For her, spirituality isn’t about chanting all day or sitting in silence for hours. It’s about awareness. It’s about realizing that every action creates a ripple, not just in your life, but in the lives of your family, community, even your country.

And no, you don’t have to give up everything to be spiritual. Jaya laughs at the idea of people calling themselves ‘detached’ just because they move into a forest or an ashram. “That’s still attachment. You left one attachment and chose another,” she points out. She stresses, “Spirituality does not mean leaving things behind.”

True detachment means being unaffected no matter where you are. You can use everything, enjoy everything, and still not let it settle inside you.

“Don’t Put Others First, Keep Your Own Jug Filled Before Pouring Water Into Other Glasses” – Jaya Kishori

But what about the idea that being spiritual means putting others first? Jaya strongly disagrees. “Never do that. Because when you do that, somewhere you are draining your own battery. To pour water into other glasses, the jug itself must have water.”

It’s her way of saying that self-love isn’t selfish, it’s survival. When you’re happy and fulfilled, your presence alone can bring peace to others.

Her message is simple – don’t confuse spirituality with sacrifice. Start with yourself, fill your own cup, and everything else flows naturally. Because if you keep giving from emptiness, one day you’ll explode with resentment. But when you’re recharged, your goodness spills out without effort.

And maybe that’s the most refreshing take, spirituality doesn’t demand that you abandon life. It just asks you to live it with awareness, balance, and a little love for yourself first.
