‘Bollywood ki shaan‘, one of the most looked up to fashionistas and the ultimate drama diva, Sonam Kapoor has a lot riding on her name and here’s another story to give you the laughs.
Thirteen years ago Sonam made her big debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya opposite Ranbir Kapoor and this is the story behind it.
In an interview Sonam recalled, “The first day I went to his (Sanjay) office to meet him, I was sitting at a table. He just came back from church and he looked at me and he is like, ‘You have come for acting? Are you here for an audition?’ I said, ‘No, sir, I have come to be an assistant.’ He said, ‘But you should act, haan.’ I said okay.”
We all know that Sonam is the daughter of legendary actor Anil Kapoor. However, Kapoor also shared details on what had happened when SLB found out who her father was. “When he found out who my father was and he got very upset. He was like, ‘Are you allowed…?’ I was 17 years old and bohot jhooth-voot bol ke (after lying a lot) I was there. But I got it on my own.”
Sonam’s mother was strictly against her younger daughter joining the showbiz business and her dad was… well… being a dad as he was sceptical on Sonam joining hands with SLB as he wasn’t very familiar with the director. However, the ice breaker to the situation was when the ‘The Zoya Factor’ actress informed her parents that she would be assisting with Ranbir Kapoor.
