Before Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh was the approached for Kabir Singh movie?
Ahead of the release of Animal, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga reveals an unknown fact about his Hindi debut directorial.
Released in 2019, Kabir Singh took the box office by storm. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead, the movie is the Hindi remake of the blockbuster Telugu film, Arjun Reddy. Both the films were directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
Why Ranveer Singh Rejected Kabir Singh Movie:
During a recent interview with iDream Media, Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed that he had first approached Ranveer Singh to play the male lead in Kabir Singh. However, the actor turned it down as he felt that the content was ‘too dark’ for him at that time.
The filmmaker also mentioned how everyone was skeptical about Shahid’s casting in the film. Talking about it, he said –
“I was continuously getting calls from Mumbai to do the remake. First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. But finally, he decided he will not do it, because it was too dark for him at that time.”
“Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then, his highest was Rs 65 crore. They used to say Rs 55 crore, Rs 65 crore is the kind of business Telugu movies do. ‘Why are you doing it with this guy? If it was Ranveer, the box office would be higher’. But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor.”

Meanwhile, Vanga is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming directorial, Animal.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri and Shakti Kapoor, the film is all set to hit theatres on1st December 2023!
