Top five most tweeted about Hindi films of 2020: Dil Bechara, Chhapaak, and more

Recently, Twitter released the list of most tweeted about Hindi Movies of 2020 list.

The list includes Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘Dil Bechara’, Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chappak’, and more. Let’s check out the list below.

1- Dil Bechara

Directed by Mukesh Chhabra, Dil Bechara is an adaptation of John Green’s YA novel The Fault in Our Stars. This is the most tweeted about Hindi movie of the year. The reason behind the trend was the unexpected suicide of the lead, Sushant Singh Rajput. This was his final film before his death. Dil Bechara also marked the debut of Sanjana Sanghi as a female lead.

2- Chhapaak

Deepika Padukone made her presence at the JNU Campus to offer her support to the students attacked on the campus, the internet was abuzz with both positive and negative reactions. While some assumed this to be a promotional event for Chhappak, some applauded her for her bravery. However, Deepika’s decision to support the students did bother some people and #BoycottChhappak started trending on Twitter.

3- Tanhaji : The Unsung Warrior

Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan‘s period drama was a well-acclaimed movie in the theaters. While the Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Koli Rajput Sangh filed a petition against the makers for allegedly concealing the actual lineage of Tanaji Malusare in the movie, actor Saif Ali Khan, who portrayed Udaybhan Singh Rathod, called the politics of the film ‘dangerous’ and stated that it doesn’t accurately portray history. This movie trended really well on Twitter and was a massive box office success.

4- Thappad

Anubhav Sinha’s film Thappad, starring Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati in the lead roles, sparked debate on misogyny and normalizing violence in relationships. This was the reason behind it constantly trending on Twitter and grabbing a lot of attention.

5- Gunjan Saxena : The Kargil Girl

The Netflix biopic on former Indian Air Force officer Gunjan Saxena, starring Janhvi Kapoor grabbed a lot of attention for its depiction of the IAF academy.  The movie showed that the IAF operation was sexist and this did not go down well with many people. A petition was filed in the Delhi High Court for withdrawal of the movie from the streaming service, creating a huge buzz on Twitter. However, the court refused to stay a ban on Gunjan Saxena in the end.
