Headlined by AKshay Kumar, the movie witnessed a lukewarm start at the box office.
Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, is based on the horrific 1989 coal mine disaster in Raniganj, West Bengal.
Akshay Kumar has stepped into the shoes of Jaswant Singh Gill who risked his own life to save 65 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine.
The film hit theatres yesterday (October 6) and also stars Kumud Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Parineeti Chopra among others in significant roles.
Mission Raniganj Movie Box Office Collection Day 1:
According to reports, the edge-of-the-seat rescue thriller opened to a low start at the box office. As per Sacnilk, Mission Raniganj managed to rake in only Rs 2.8 CRORES on its opening day.
The movie had a non-holiday release and it hadn’t received a major promotional push. Mission Raniganj is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh and Ajay Kapoor.
Reportedly, the movie marks one of the low openings for an Akshay Kumar film. His last release, OMG 2 had a double digit opening (collected Rs 10.26 crores on day 1), despite facing a tough competition from Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.
The movie had a box office clash with Bhumi Pednekar’s Thank You For Coming. Directed by Karan Boolani, the film also stars Shehnaaz Gill, Kusha Kapila, Karan Kundrra, Dolly Singh, Shibani Bedi and Sushant Divgikar.

On the work front, Akshay has a string of movies lined up ahead of him. He has Sky Force, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Tiger Shroff, Soorarai Pottru remake, Welcome To The Jungle, Hera Pheri 3, Housefull 5 among others.
